Random 5 Friday

1.  I played around with this fence line picture, trying for a new effect. I haven't done much with my pictures other than point, shoot, and maybe crop them a bit, but this was fun. Much to learn and experiment with.

2. I was complaining about the new technology a few posts ago, but the part of it relating to digital cameras, and what you can now do with photos, intrigues and enchants me.

3. My last five years at UCLA were as near perfect as possible. The other day, I remembered the birthday of a coworker I liked very much and sent a Happy Birthday email. She wrote back and sent a selfie of her and our friend Judy meeting up for her birthday. Remembering so many good moments, I want to see them both.

4. My husband read something about deep fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the Joy of Cooking. This was enough to inspire him to try it and then improve on the recipe. I believe he's now dreaming of designing many different kinds of deep-fried sandwiches. OUCH!

5. If you haven't seen me commenting on your blogs this week, blame the IRS. Just kidding, but I have been immersed in income tax preparation stuff. This should not be difficult, with no business to account for, and a good tax accountant. But with advancing age has come a great dislike of keeping up with paperwork, filing, record keeping, and so on.....

  2. No one likes income tax time, Inger. Hubs and I always did our own all the time. But the forms keeps becoming more difficult, as our revenue services try to force everyone to use the online tax packages. We may pay this year to see what difference it makes. If it's the same as ours, we'll go back to doing our own.

Isn't it fun to play with the camera images? I have a version of Adobe Photoshop and Picasa. Picasa will let you straighten an image that is crooked, who knew?

Your image of the fence line looks like a woodprint, or an old black and white. . .

BTW - Roland suggests that you read Her Bones are in the Badlands after Death in the House of life, because he said, it's in your part of the country and it's about the silent film era. I was asking if he would be writing a sequel to Death in the House of Life. I plan to read that one soon too, as I love reading about the old movie sets (like that Fitzgerald one, The Last Tycoon.

  3. Oh, forgot re the fried sandwiches. A slightly healthier way of getting a hot sandwich is to use a Panini grill with the same ingredients. We tried a peanut butter and banana combo in the grill and it was quite good, without the extra fat.

You still get a hot sandwich.

  4. Oh that tax thing has kept many of us away from our blogs but I am done now YeahOh it is so nice you keep in contact with your co-workers and I wish you could go see them too.
Deep fired sandwiches well I have no idea what that would taste like but I would probably try it.

  6. I must devote a post to my hub's cooking soon. The other day, he found a large can of clams, so he made a New England Clam Chowder with a New Orleans touch! We had it last night and I don't think I have ever tasted a soup as good. I, who don't even care that much about food, was blessed with a husband who truly loves to cook. I am indeed a very fortunate woman.

  7. Since I am the organization nut! everything was ready for the Pres and tax time, it's keying it in that's time consuming. As you know I don't play with my pix...pretty much other than a crop or change to B & W, they are what they are although I enjoy seeing others play!...:)JP

  8. I don't know what to think about fried pb+js. I'd try one - but I don't know if I'd like it or not. Is it like a grilled cheese or is it truly fried?

  9. I'm drooling.....DEEP FRIED PB&J!!! Danger....Danger! Love the pencil sketch processing on that photo. It's so fun to see what can be created with different effects.

  10. I LOVE what you did with that first photo. Really. It's as good, if not better, than some I've seen hanging on gallery and museum walls.

Deep-fried PB&J? I think I'll pass on that one. Ditto deep-fried Twinkies, candy bars and ice cream.

  12. Oh dear, at the county fairs they deep fry everything. They are yummy but would be the death of me.
I have finally reached the age where I am old enough and poor enough the the govt is no longer interested in me. Wonderful.

  13. The photo could pass as a sketch, people would think what a talented artist you were! Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches seems like a strange combination to me, although I should try it before I judge

  14. I think it was deep fried PB and J w/ banana that did in Elvis.

Terrific pictures! I love playing with Picasa -- so many neat effects.

  15. Photography and technology together have done so many wonders that professional photographers are finding it hard to survive.
Taxes can be such a drag. We still have to do our taxes.

  16. We are also in the midst of tax prep. We also have a great accountant, but with the farm, and other things, it is still a lot of work.

  20. I usually do taxes early but decided to put them off this year. I always have to pay, so I might as well pay at the last minute. I'm resentful that X gets to deduct the maintenance he pays me, while I have to pay taxes on my pittance.

    Love,
    Janie

  21. Deep fried PB and jelly/ banana sandwich... what a way to go. I bet it's very tasty. I don't deep fry my sandwich but butter the outside and pan fry them in a fry pan on top of the stove, like a grill cheese sandwich.

Thanks for coming over and leaving a comment on my blog. I haven done my blog round yet today. I have so much on the go. I'll have to play catch-up.

  22. I really want to see what a deep fried sandwich looks like, but I want to see yours - not mine.
I am so very thankful we have an IRS office in our town - with real people in it!

  23. If you haven't been around, we'll not blame the IRS, but likely the NAS.

Hope you've had a fine Friday experimenting with your pictures, and that your weekend will be delightful.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  24. Didn't Elvis like friend peanut butter and banana sandwiches? Maybe you'd better not share that idea with your husband. I do understand about income tax time…I need to get with it! How nice that you made contact with your UCLA friend. I'm sure she was thrilled to hear from you, too! ;-)

  25. I know what you mean about the taxes. Thankfully I got ours done last week before college daughter came home for Spring Break.

  26. Argh -- I put off the taxes as long as possible. The older I get, the dummer I get. Just my observation.

  28. Hi Inger - don't know if you remember Mars Bars .. they deep-fry them here ..

I have to say I've never been tempted by peanut butter and jelly .. and thankfully don't get tempted by fried sandwiches ...

Income tax and paper work - it's such a pain, necessary I suppose ...

I see DG has given you some advice re photoshop .. and Roland's books ..

I'll get there! Cheers and here's to finishing that form soon .. Hilary
