California Poppies

brighten up our town and countryside:

The pictures are from 2012, when I took a day to explore the countryside around here. It looks just as lovely this year, poppies are everywhere except for in the the canyon. No flowers here at all, just some low growing weeds. I'm not even sure I will need the tractor/mower guy to come this year.

  1. I love poppies and I wish that I could grow them. I have made several attempts but each time was a failure.

The good thing about having nothing to mow is that you will have no one to pay.

  3. you must be having the same type drought we are.. even a desert can have drought. these poppies are just gorgeous. i have never seen them even in a vase or growing... i did not know they grew in clumps. i planted wild flower seeds in 3 buckets in the back yard, waiting to see if they bloom

  4. Dear Inger, I so love poppies. I used to grow them in my four perennial gardens in Stillwater (MN). We, too, have been in the midst of a drought. We had torrential rain--connected to the tornadoes that passed through here--last week and may get rain again today. I hope all this is enough to help the farmers. Peace.

  7. They really are pretty. Too bad they aren't growing in the canyon. Drought can really ruin a landscape.

  10. Hi Inger, the California Poppies are so beautiful and to think they grow wild in your area. Here we have to buy the seeds. I wonder why they don't grow in your area. Maybe you need to scatter some seeds around. I so love flowers but I rarely cut flowers to bring them in the house. I prefer to see them grow outside for some reason.

I finally got my internet back yesterday. I'm so happy... I also got my power back and water but it's not safe to drink it yet. I'm still using bottled water to drink. On Friday of next week, we will get the hot water heater replaced then I will be able to take a real shower. We also are waiting to have the water softener replaced. This was the longest flood we ever endured.

I hope you are all well.
    Hugs, Julia
