A Newborn Burro Foal ~ Good Fences No. 21

Behind a barbed wire fence a burro foal, born on a stormy December day in 2007, stands up and takes her first steps. I unofficially named her Storm. If she is doing well, she's in West Texas with the rest of the donkeys and burros from the rescue. I love to think of her roaming larger fields than were available here.

P.S. I have a problem with my computer screen which seems to have lost its color and now is a pukey (sp?) greenish yellowish. At first I thought it was my eyes gone weird, but everything else is looking as it always does, so it's probably another Windows 10 glitch.

Thank you for your comments on the Sunrise post. No need to leave comments here until I get back with you. I think I may take a blogger break until after the 21st. I just don't have time to figure out what may be wrong. If you have an idea, please let me know. Thanks and have a great week ahead.

Good Fences No.20

Not a very good fence, this. It's old and falling down and not keeping anyone in or out.

The field is not a part of my property, but I drive by it every day on the way to my mail box.

Rabbit Brush In Bloom ~ Good Fences No. 18

Down by my mailbox, I spotted this large Rabbit Brush bush just beginning to bloom.

Soon this entire field will burst into yellow blooms, a sure sign that fall is not far behind.

Bird On A Wire Fence ~ Good Fences No. 17

A bird on an improvised temporary fence that surrounded our vegetable garden a few years back. Attracted by the water, large numbers of birds would gather here. When a mama bear and her two cubs discovered the garden, Errol had to make a proper fence. Miss those days, miss him so......

From The Norbertine Sisters' Garden ~ Good Fences No. 15 - And Tree Trimming Update Pics

Rachael and I like to visit the sisters up on the mountain where the statue of Saint Francis keeps watch over the animals.

Before and After of the Old Juniper Tree:

After I trimmed back the shorter branches and twigs, Glenn cut off the larger ones and the thicker limbs. I think we did a pretty good job and I hope the tree will enjoy this much lighter load and thrive for another couple of hundred years.

I wasn't able to visit anyone this past week because of computer glitches and my unwillingness to deal with them. They are still with me, but at least I figured out how to fix the major problem. So good for now, but it's a recurring one that will need more of my time later.

Entrance To A Country Estate & Hip Pain Diagnosed ~ Good Fences No. 14

Country elegance down the mountain in Hart Flat, California.

And my hip diagnosis is arthritis of moderate severity, so that's good. I needed to know what was wrong. Best of all, the pain is gone for now. Recommendation: If pain returns, try treating with anti-inflammatory meds. If severe pain persists, see hip doctor.  Not sure I can take anti-inflammatory meds because of my diabetes and risk for kidney problems, but I don't have to be concerned about that right now. So all is good with the hip.

Lower back MRI revealed two healed compression fractures and narrowing of the spine and bulge on L4 and L5. Recommendation: Stretching exercies and return to this doctor if I get a back ache. So out comes the yoga mat, again.....

Things are looking good for my age, said the doctor after I asked.

So well worth the trip to Bakersfield, baking in 102 degrees heat with a bad air alert for sensitive groups. Mary drove us in her car, which is much more comfortable than the Jeep. I don't see how she can sit so patiently and wait for hours, reading magazines, books, or crocheting. Her company and friendship is a huge gift to me, that's for sure.

Julio, The Best Goat Ever ~ Good Fences No. 13

Once upon a time out in the high desert, the California Highway Patrol stopped a car from Mexico. As the cops were taking down information, a banging noise came from the trunk of the car. Wondering what in the world was in there, the police opened the trunk and found several goats! I think there were seven goats stuffed in there. Some had died, but several were still alive. When the Mojave Animal Shelter called and asked for help with this strange crew, two were adopted by the donkey rescue, where I worked in 2007 - 2008.

We named them Julio and Eduardo. Survivors both, they turned out to be the most fun and entertaining of all the animals at the rescue. Nothing was safe from their mouths and visitors would lose gloves, hats, and anything else half-way edible. They were the first goats I ever knew personally, so to speak, and I still miss them. As some of you may recall, the donkey rescue moved to Texas and I now have different neighbors.

Samson Says Thanks, Faith Talks About Mommy, and I Post My Good Fences No. 11

Much is happening in this picture from Hart Flat California, a community located 12 miles down the mountain from our town. But I like the stone wall, the beautiful trees, and the road going off to a magnificent estate, perhaps; or an old country house with stables and a barn.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Samson Says: Thank you all my blogger friends for your Happy Birthday wishes. You are the bestest friends a dog could have. I'm on my way to becoming and old dog now, wise and stubborn. Mommy is not feeling well, but she says she'll visit your blogs a few each day.
Faith: Yeah, mommy hurts a lot. She can't do Sit Stay any more, then the pain gets worserer and worserer.
Samson Says: It's called, worse and worse, didn't I teach you how to write?
Faith: You teached me lots, write isn't one of the lots. You old grouch monster, you.
Me: Never did I think I'd have problems walking, but after I sit for a while, then get up, the vague pains I've had for the past six months, or so, have now become intolerable. I see my chiropractor tomorrow and an orthopedic specialist next week. I need this diagnosed so I can figure out what to do.
Good news is that I got the results from my stress test and the cardiologist said my heart is great! Such good news, I'm happy....
HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY, SAMSON & Good Fences No. 10
HAPPY 7TH BIRTHDAY, SAMSON ~ YOU BIG OLD FLUFFMONSTER, YOU!
You may not remember this: You grew up behind all those flowers on that fence below.
You were the cutest puppy ever and all the kids in the neighborhood, and some grownups too, would stop to say hello and pet you through the gate.
One day, daddy took you up to the canyon. Here are some pictures from your first day visiting. You were just three months old:
Samson Says: I'm getting wet feet! Not sure I like this...
OK, now I'm getting the hang of it!
And now I got muddy feet, sorry mommy!
Listening to Angel, who became your doggie mommy and raised you so well.
Hanging with the big guys!
A Ranch Gate ~ Good Fences No.9
A picture from Twin Oaks, California taken last February when Mary and I were out looking for wildflowers. Not sure you can call that a good fence, but the gate is pretty cool.
Critter On a Fence ~ Good Fences No.8
Hey, little critter on the fence, looking pretty good there. May I take your picture?
Critter said nothing, so I took that for a yes. Captured his image and my shadow too.
This colorful fence is located at Murray Farms at the foot of the mountains.
Where there are palm trees so tall I can barely photograph their tops together with the subject of my picture, the colorful fence.
Good Fences ~ No.5
A part of the fence at our Los Angeles house.
While it may be pretty, the bougainvillea is far more lethal than last week's barbed wire fence. You definitely do not want to get tangled up in it.
The house is rented now and the bouganvillea cut back. It's not as pretty as it once was, but less dangerous and easier to care for.
