Rust ~ Post No. 17

I took this picture back in 2010 or somewhere close to it. I was inspired by the pictures our blogger friend Graham took of things left by the roadsides in Namibia. One of them a truck that had all kinds of things growing out of what once had been the engine compartment.  As you perhaps can see, this old truck has grass growing where the engine once was.

It sits by the side of Hwy 58, on the way to our town. Close to where a part of the mountainside came down in that huge mudslide back in 2015. I was worried about the truck, but it was safe, a bit worse for wear but still so very cool.

  2. Even when no longer in use, the old truck is a home for some grass, and maybe birds nests too.

  4. Hi Inger - 'got rocks ... got bogged down ... stayed still and just stayed!'. Lovely clear photo ... and so interesting to see the rusting things just left at the side of the road. Sad too.

Interesting to see the rabbit bushes (am I right there?) and the desert landscape - blanketed by the wind farm up above ... modern life moves on and ever closer ...

Good to see you around - take care ... and cheers Hilary

  5. proof that if you're old enough and cool enough you become a work of art.
and magically that it was spared in the huge mudslide. that alone is something.
you are teaching me the beauties of the desert. have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Well, I must confess that rust and rusty items are not among things that I like or appreciate.
Nevertheless, this truck has something about it that makes it almost appealing.Maybe it's the red color or its position in a desert location. Who knows?

  8. I love this photo! Old rusty trucks, or old rusty anything in the desert look great and intrigue me. They often tell a story about past activity. Wonderful capture!

  9. Love to see the old and rusty still useful. Pretty sure there are a few rodents bunking there also.

  10. Thank you for these really nice comments. Now I am inspired to learn my new camera and see if I can take some pictures again. I just don't like the phone, even though it takes good pictures.

  11. Dear Inger, there is a saying that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." For me, that means that if I look for beauty I will find it. I think you believe that too. Thank you for this photo of beauty! Peace.
