now that April's there.....
I often think of this poem, Thoughts from Abroad, by Robert Browning, in the month of June. My thoughts go like this: Oh, to be in Sweden now that June's there.....
You see, the month of June is the time I'm homesick. The light summer nights, the lakes, the flowers, the green fields, Swedish summers as I remember them. More about that in another post, because yesterday I found a little bit of England in a valley on the other side of town.
I went there with Joyce to see some puppies belonging to an English friend of hers. And found so much more. Here are some pictures I took. This will be a story in two parts, because I want to show it all:
I hope you enjoyed this display. I have no idea how she managed to keep it all alive during the dry years. Not only do you have to water, but you have to love your garden with much passion....
I will post more from this lovely afternoon, including a not so good picture of five-day old puppies with their mommy.
This is for Tammy j who leaves lovely comments on my posts, but doesn't have a blog of her own:
I have tried to contact you to thank you for your comments, but when I click on your name, instead of getting the Peanut, I get lovely pictures from a marina in Florida. This was very confusing. But reading your last comment, I believe it must be the friend you mentioned. If you don't want to be found, I will just thank you here and let you know I hope you are doing well. Email me if you want to me to touch base every now and then.
you found a bit of an English garden in the desert, how wonderful for her and for you... you are so right about having to love with passion a garden to make it grow. I never had that passion, and my plants new it. I rater read then weed and they new that to... can't wait to see the puppies.
ReplyDeleteThis area is actually in the mountains, about 1,000 feet above the high desert, and consists of several valleys surrounded by higher mountains, up to around 8,000 feet. I believe it's called Alpine. The climate and nature in the canyon more closely resembles the desert below, but is also 1,000 feet above it. But you are right, she still had to deal with the drought, as did everyone in California.
DeleteIt seems like each area of the world has its most beautiful seasons. I think in Utah it's June and October. But most places in the U.S. seem to have a lovely June. Or maybe it's just my favorite month because it's my birthday month!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Karen. And it's mine too!
DeleteGorgeous abundance! And it does remind me of an English garden. Can't wait to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, the first photo with hanging ornaments and an Amaryllis? the plants together are a wonderful display. So glad you found this friend's friend's garden.
ReplyDeleteI love June also. I think gardens show their best then and I haven’t grown weary yet of caring fo them. That garden you are showing is super-beautiful and so lush. Your friend definitely has a green thumb..
ReplyDeleteThe garden is lovely. Our June is already so hot that I can't keep the few flowers I have alive. Puppies? Yes, please, and I don't care if the photo isn't the greatest.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
It looks like a lovely oasis ... beautiful ...
ReplyDeleteI wish you'd send us some of your sunshine Inger - it has been horrible here so far in June - 12C yesterday - that's winter temperatures ... and today's no better. Our central heating is broken and I'm working at the computer huddled up in jumpers and a shawl! June!
oh Inger! I didn't mean to go incognito on my friends. I don't like that part of it at all!
ReplyDeleteit all happened very suddenly. losing the Peanut I mean. the Captain (who was hosting it) decided to get out of the hosting business (he had others) and I hadn't written in a long time. he asked if it was ok to take it down. I agreed. but then as you say... when I checked it (I was thinking it would give some kind of notice for awhile at least about the Peanut) his own site showed up there as well as on his own! LOL! I'm so sorry for any confusion.
and you're more than welcome about my email. since I'm subscribed to you I thought you'd have it! I tell you my technical abilities are NIL. and this post to me is fascinating and fabulous. and because of my own high school Swedish friend I can well imagine a homesick feeling at certain times of the year. she said the LIGHT is nothing short of MAGICAL!
my email is tammyrdjames@gmail.com (you give meaning to the words Bloom where you're planted!) :D xo
Must be her English hand that tends such a lovely garden. Looking forward to the pics of those puppies also.
ReplyDeleteHi Inger - great you've obviously connected with Tammy ... and enjoy those chats. England is just beautiful at the moment - even with the amount of rain that's around ... it is deluging in places! Thankfully here I've avoided the worst and last week had a lovely day out and about - posting anon!
ReplyDeleteYour little piece of England - with puppies - looks quite delightful ... are they snapdragons - bursting forth with colour? It does look like 'home' ... but I imagine your Swedish home is slightly different - long long nights ... wonderful ... looking forward to seeing your Swedish memories ...
Cheers Hilary
Such a lovely garden!!
ReplyDeleteYou found a piece of heaven... I love the beautiful garden pictures. Anything garden gets me interested. Such beauty that feeds the soul. When I'm in the gardens, it like I've come home.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julia
