Princess Beats The Blues With Ball

Hello Everyone, It's Me, Princess!

Let me tell you, us dogs have had a tough time since mommy got hurt. We didn't get to walk for the longest time, then it got so hot that one didn't want to walk anyway and we couldn't get comfortable inside or out.

After a while, Soldier and me felt so bad we just hid our heads and slept the days away.

Then, when mommy felt better, she said I could walk with her to the mailboxes, way down the road..

We started early, before it got hot, but I was in such bad shape, I could only walk to the end of our road, where I sat down by these pretty flowers and waited for mommy to come back.

This made mommy very worried and she said when daddy comes up to take Soldier for his rabies shot, I have to take you too. Well, first of all, I've heard Soldier goes CRAZY at the vet and has a bad reputation over there for not living up to his name: Soldier! And, since I'm such a GOOD girl, I really don't want to be associated with him.

Plus, it seems to me, I was just there anyway and got drooled on---I mean who needs all that? See that drool spot on my head?

So I tried to tell mommy that maybe I was just sort of down. Could I chase the ball maybe? Mommy got the idea and every morning, while it's still cool out, I get to chase the ball and now I'm HAPPY again.

First I give the ball an intimidating stare

Then I let mommy throw it and I run

Then I open my mouth and catch it

and bring it back

Then I give mommy an intimidating stare until she throws it again.

Mommy stopped by the vet the other day and there she met a dog that got a foxtail up her nose – or so they thought – so today mommy thought she better throw the ball on the road where there's no grass with foxtails.

That was fun for a while, until I took a spill and

mommy thought we were going back here again.

But, as you can see, I'm pretty tough, so here I come bringing the ball back and ready for more.

Later, inside, when Angel had one of her outbursts of JOY because she just stole mommy's slipper, both Soldier and I were happy dogs and played along in the Who Stole Mommy's Shoe? game.

That's all for now! Thanks for visiting.

Spa Day -- Sort Of -- Mostly Brushing

Hello Everyone, it's me, Princess!

Before I tell you about our spa day, mommy and me want to welcome a new follower to our blog: The Cottage Garden Farmer.
We found out that we were going to have a spa day yesterday. You never know exactly what that means. If it's just a brushing, it's fine with us dogs.
But none of us likes a bath and when we saw all the stuff mommy took out, we got a little worried.  We don't like to get our ears cleaned with this stuff even if we can hear better afterwards. And we're all scared of our pedicures.
Look at Angel; she's trying to hide all her paws! And doesn't she have a worried face?

Yesterday mommy gave each one of us a good brushing. Then she wiped us off with some nice smelling doggie towels. That felt very good. She told me I was the dirtiest dog of all – I bet that's because I just LOVE to ROLL: in the snow, in the grass, and, I must confess, in the dirt too. Here I am, rolling in the snow:

I like rolling in the snow the best!

We also got our ears cleaned, but then mommy got tired and said she would do our nails later. She said she had to go and take a shower and brush herself too. I wonder why she thinks she needs a brushing; she doesn't have any fur, except for that long hair she needs to get cut. Us dogs never quite understand what our persons are doing most of the time.
So she disappeared in the bathroom and was gone a long time. When she came out, she was rosy all over and smelled real good. But she wasn't done, she brought out a towel and put a basin of warm water on it and said she had to soak her feet. That always looks so nice and I wonder why us dogs don't get to soak our paws. I heard that Martha Stewart's dogs have to soak their paws before they are even allowed in the house. I bet you Martha Stewart has a cleaner house than mommy does.
Then mommy brought this out. Oh, I've had my eyes on that orangey/red nail polish for the longest time. I think it would go so well with my black fur, don't you? I guess mommy may put some on me if I agree to have my pedicure without fuss. I have to think about that.

This time mommy just put on clear nail polish and after that our spa day was over.

Thanks for visiting – we all hope to see you here soon again!

Samson Learns A Lesson

Welcome to my blog Cindi, I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi again everyone, it's me Princess!

It was a pretty boring weekend -- mommy with her busted shoulder and daddy mad 'cause it rained and snowed so he couldn't whack the weeds like he planned. And no walks for us. So to have some fun, us older dogs decided to teach Samson how to beg.
First: The old staring intently trick…
If that doesn't work: Let's try a smile…
Or staring intently and smiling at the same time.
If that doesn't work: Let's try to get closer, maybe daddy will get the idea. I want a taste, yes I do!!!!!
When all else fails: We try the old ganging up on him trick.
It worked: Daddy is getting out our biscuits now!!
But afterwards, Samson says: This is what I want to know, why do we have to work soooo hard just to get a little teeny biscuit? That's they way of the world, puppy dog, we tell him. You'll find out that there will be lots of things our persons do that you'll never be able to make head or tails of.

That's all for now, hope to see you soon again. But most of all I hope we get to go for a walk real soon. But then I guess we're spoiled with our daily walks and us dogs have to look for our patience too, just like mommy is looking for hers.

Thanks for visiting.

Rattlesnake Vaccine? Who, Me? We're Going Where?

I'm getting a little worried here. When I get the leash it usually only means one thing. And it isn't good.
Mommy and I go in the car for a long time. I think I know where we are now.
See, I knew this is where she was taking me! Mommy said I had to get my rattlesnake vaccine, whatever that is. Oh well, as long as they don't try to take my temperature, I guess I'll try to be good.
And it isn't all bad; you get to meet an awful lot of nice people and some pretty doggies too.
Then this thing comes in. It almost looked like the cows next door, it was that big!
Turns out it was a dog and a boy dog at that. He immediately took a liking to me! I wasn't sure how I felt about it, I mean, I wasn't scared or anything. I could tell he was a good dog, just like me. He was just sooo big!

He came closer and closer and then he started to kiss my ear.
And then he drooled on the top of my head! Can you see the yucky spot of drool?

"Enough already," I said, and told him to go away and lay down. That he did, and then a lady came and said mommy could come to the counter and pay.
While mommy was paying, I spotted this way out and went over to see if maybe I could leave now.
No such luck, soon another girl came and I had to get on that contraption that tells you how much you weigh. This is what I weigh now – and the girl told mommy I had lost 3 pounds since last year. That made mommy real happy. I'm happy too because it may mean I can get some more dog biscuits now. I'll just go: "Please, please, mommy, remember I lost 3 pounds!"
Then we went in another room and this nice girl sat down and petted me. Then she told me I was a good doggie and, sure enough, she gave me a cookie right then and there. I wonder if it was because I lost the weight … I never felt that I got a shot or anything. After that, we were allowed to leave.
And when we got outside, mommy, who always seems to carry a camera around these days, had to take yet another picture. "Of the scenery," she said. I just wanted to get back home myself. An old dog can get a bit tired after all that excitement. And after a while we were home again. Angel and Soldier were awfully glad to see me and sniffed me all over. As for me, I think I go and take a nap now. Bye! That's all for now.

Thanks for visiting with me and mommy and we hope to see you soon again.

My Morning By Princess

Hi again, it's me Princess! And I want to tell you about our fun morning.

Look at mommy! I wonder if she thinks it's Halloween already. She looks like she is going out to scare someone! That's what I thought this morning, but then I heard her talking to herself, saying: "Brrrr, it's only 18 degrees out there so I better dress real warm. I'm glad I found my mittens and winter hat." Mommy likes cold weather, just like me, but because she doesn't have any FUR, she has to dress real warm. I have DOUBLE FUR! That's how I stay warm.
We all had a lot of ENERGY and walked very far this morning. I spotted a rabbit and took off after it! You probably can't see me, but I was chasing it. I never catch any, but I love to chase them. They are very FAST!
Here I am coming back from my chase.
When we got home, mommy built a fire so we could all be warm and cozy.
I love a nice fire and I soon felt drowsy from my long walk and rabbit chase, so I laid down in my special corner and went to sleep. It was a very nice morning and I wanted to tell you all about it. See you soon again.....

Friends Can Make Your Day

Hi again everyone, it's me.....Princess!

This morning my mommy woke up kind of blue. Blue means that she wasn't feeling very happy. But after she talked to a friend on the phone, she felt much better. It's good to have friends.

Here is a picture of two friends:

After she felt better, mommy decided to do some chores this morning. As usual, I got to help her. Yesterday, she took the dirt out of the small flower pots she had outside this summer. Today, she rinsed them out and put them in the shed.

Last week, mommy cleaned the hall closet and she had a lot of brushes and stuff she wanted to clean. So today, she took it all outside. First she dipped our doggie brushes in soapy water. Silly Soldier thought it was cotton candy. He got all excited and sniffed them and then he sneezed and sneezed! I had to laugh, he looked so surprised!

Mommy also found a pair of black sneakers she forgot she had in the closet, so she washed them and her regular sneakers too. And put them in the sun to dry. Then she found her gloves that she put in a bag last spring. They were full of fox tails! She took one look at them and put them right back in the bag. Fox tails are terrible for dogs. If we get one in our ear, we have to go to the VET! So I try to stay away from them. I hope she just throws away those old gloves.

After that, mommy got some duct tape and fixed the covers around the outside water faucet. The one inside our enclosure is still OK for the winter. Then she decided to repair the trash can lid. She tried it before, but it broke again so she only uses that can for recycle stuff. Otherwise a lot of MICE can get into the trash and that's very bad. The mice really like Pippi Birdie's seeds and always try to find some leftovers. This time mommy put the duct tape on the inside of the lid and I think it will work better.

After that, mommy rinsed the enclosed area and then she rinsed her car. That car gets rinsed every day almost! It's because it is so dusty here. I'm dusty too, but I'm so glad I don't get rinsed off every day. That would be just terrible!

If you look closely, you can see a rainbow.

Then mommy and I took a break and sat on the porch and looked out over the fields.

It was a very nice morning and we got a lot done. See how nice it is to have friends, they can change your whole day.
