The Joy Of Coloring ~ Post No. 1

Some years ago now, my friend Judy gave me a beautiful coloring book with Scandinavian motifs. She actually gave me several, but there was one that spoke to me and I began to color.

As I colored the drawings, I realized that the quality of the pencils were of the utmost importance. I believe the ones Judy gave me came from Barnes & Noble and I don't think you could find a better set.

I have taken it up again and I'm right now working on a beautiful ram. I hope I can do him justice. I hope I'm doing all of them justice because the drawings are excellent.

I would recommend this very peaceful activity in times of trouble, like right now. You don't have to be good at drawing since that's already done, all you have to do is pick your colors and try to stay within the lines.

Note:

Thank you for your kind comments on the story I wrote when I was eight. I was a good kid, I respected my parents and believed they were right when they warned me about things. I believe this has helped me navigate my life safely. Being cautious while having adventures.

  1. this is lovely and as a child i colored for hours and hours, but since the advent of computers i have changed to colroing in that. this is good for the brain and good for the soul to do something that you enjoy and this one is pretty enough to frame.

  2. My local libraries have got into this, even run grown-up coloring sessions. I think a lot of people enjoy peacefully filling in the drawings.

  4. You did a great job. I find I don't have the patience for adult coloring books but really enjoy the children's versions. You know,a horse, a cow, a duck a rabbit. Think it is that staying in the lines I struggle with:))

  7. This tree is so lovely, , that could be framed and on your wall, or laminated and a place mat, love it. There are so many varieties of those books here, I have looked, but some designs are so intricate, but now I see your tree, think they are better that way. Pencils must be like machine needles or thread, good quality is always the way to go.

  8. I was given a notebook with drawings and a box of colorful pencils by the volunteers for the senior citizens, that also bought me food boxes and some gym devices.
I've put it aside, but now your delicately colored tree branch has encouraged me to do the same, try to color the drawings, and enjoy myself.

  10. Your painting is beautiful. I liked coloring but with our busy lifestyles we sacrifice so much of our likes on the way.

  12. I also enjoy coloring and have a number of books that were given to me as gifts. Right now I am doing a paint-by-number which is also fun and passes the time.

  13. Hi Inger - what a wonderful thing to have discovered and find ready and waiting for you. Just enjoy the peace and time using your ideas to colour in. I know I missed the earlier post ... and will comment now. These colouring sessions will be ideal sitting quietly in the shade. Stay safe and be at peace - Hilary

  14. there is a freshness to most all Scandinavian design to me... and it shows here!
I have essential tremor in my right hand which has ruined by handwriting. I wonder if coloring might help me. thanks for the tip. we'll see. most of the coloring books I've seen are just too busy to me. I like the almost mid-century simplicity of your picture!
    and I LOVE trees! xo

  16. That is a nice picture. I bought a beautiful coloring book a year ago with pictures of all kinds of cats! I've been coloring only the cats and not the backgrounds yet! I do enjoy it but have to be in the mood for it!
