Me: So Faith, I just read about the president's dog Major Biden.
Faith: What about the president's dog? Is he in the army?
Me: No, Major is his name. And he nipped someone. Again!
Faith: Imagine that! Will he be in trouble?
Me: I don't know, but I think he will have to go back to school, again.
Faith: Why do you think he keeps up this bad behavior?
Me: I guess he's upset he has to live in the White House, not in his own home. There are probably too many strangers there that make him feel insecure. What do you think? And what can be done to help him so he won't nip again?
Faith: I think he was spoiled by his daddy before his daddy became president. Now his daddy has less time to play with him.
Then he had to move from the only home he's ever known.
Then he has to put up with a bunch of SECRET people. Did you know they all wear dark suits and dark glasses? That alone would scare a dog.
You do know most dogs that nip or bite do it when they're insecure or scared, don't you?
Me: Oh, Faith, that sounds so true to me. What a smart dog you are.
Faith: I know, but this nipping problem is kind of easy for a dog to understand.
Me: What would you recommend they do to make Major feel more secure.
Faith: First, his people should spend more time with him and be his major walkers, not use some hired dog walker.
Second, they should pet him and give him lots of treats. Maybe he could sleep in their bed. Unless it's too fancy a bed in this White House.
Third, those SECRET people should look less INTIMIDATING. Dress in lighter suits, maybe. And they should most definitely take off their dark glasses when they're around Major Biden.
Finally, this is not the time to bring a cat into the White House. Cats and their claws have a way to make even the bravest dog feel a bit insecure. Until we get used to them and allow them to become part of our pack.
Me: I'm sure President and Dr. Biden pet Major a lot and give him treats, but great advice about cats and the Secret Service people. Do you want to write a letter to the president and tell him?
Faith: No, I think the president will have to figure this one out for himself. I mean, he must be at least as smart as me if he's the president of all of us.
Me: You're right, I'm sure he will figure it out.
Faith is a smart dog, I think Faith should have a conversation with Major.
ReplyDeleteI heard the Dog Whisperer wants to spend some time with Major. I hope all works out for Major at the White House. Take care, have a happy day!
Hi Inger - fun post ... I feel for the Bidens - having Major around nipping people ... but I hope it works out for him. Glad you're happy Faith and not nipping people - mind you the desert has few humans around doesn't it ... stay safe one and all - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteAh Faith, you need to have your own advice column!! You are so wise and understanding.
ReplyDeleteFunny dialogue!
ReplyDeleteWell, the president has too many things on his mind to be aware of his dog's needs and mood. The rules and atmosphere in the White House are different from those in a private house. I'm a bit surprised they are even allowed to keep pets there.
I agree, Faith should have her own pet advice column.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure glad she would get a lot of fans.
Have a great day.
Hugs, Julia
Can see where Faith's logic is quite sound. I might snap at all those men in glasses who talk into their collars:)
ReplyDeleteLike Julia's idea of Faith having an advice column. I enjoy her take on life.
Now I'm going to have to go and research because I did not know of the second nipping until I read this. I have been doing everything I can to stay away from the news so I just did it in bits and pieces like I just got this. You're really smart face I'm really beautiful too and we know that if you were in the White House it would be no nipping and if those in the White House there would be no nipping. I'm wondering if he bit the same person and if that person is a bad person I'm off to research
ReplyDeleteFaith, Franklin and Penelope think what Major really wants is to join the secret people because he's trying to protect his mom and dad. He should have his own sunglasses and a badge. They are quite concerned about Major and don't want him to ever get in trouble.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie, Franklin, and Penelope
Faith, you should become a trainer of other dogs. I totally agree with you, especially about the dark suits and sunglasses. I sure would never have thought of that, it takes a smart dog like you.
ReplyDeleteSmart and sensible conversations Faith, you could give any dog owner a few clues, or more. I think, too, maybe the person nipped was sending out some bad signals.
ReplyDeleteI remember bush's scottie leap up and take a piece out of a reporter. On video, embarrassingly. Needed stitches. And FDRs dog tore the pants of the British prime minister, Ramsay Macdonald. They had to scramble to find new kicks so he could leave in good order!! There's a history of animal encounters in the White House. Not an easy environment for a dog with strong protective instincts.
ReplyDeleteTraining could extend to press and Service not to shove their hands out at any dog. It's interpreted as aggressive.
So right on, Faith. Our dogs get upset when our routine is upset at all. Can you imagine having to live at the White House? I'd bite people if I had to live near so many other people!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteYes, it is fear-biting, I believe. I hope Major is given the help and time he needs!
ReplyDeleteI love your conversations with Faith! I just love them.
ReplyDeleteand isn't Major the one who was a Rescue? I think so.
I'm like Sandra... I hadn't even heard or read about this.
I feel sorry for both dogs. their entire lives have been changed.
you should copy your conversation and send it to the President.
I'M TOTALLY SERIOUS! it wouldn't just give him 'food for thought'
it would delight him! XOXO
I thought about it, because I think you are right, he would be delighted. And Faith would be famous! How she would love it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be nipping them too!!
ReplyDeleteYour dialogue is fun but sensible ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
love this dialogue - so cute.
