Glogg, the heavenly  Swedish Christmas drink

Recipe

Ingredients:
1 bottle dry red wine
1 bottle port (or other sweet red wine)
Enough vodka, brandy or other alcohol to make the glogg light up
4 whole cloves
8 cardamoms
1/2 cup almonds (blanched and shredded)
1 - 2 cups raisins
orange peel
2 cinnamon sticks
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup sugar lumps
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A day or two before the Christmas party:
Place cloves, cinnamon and other spices in a kettle, cover with enough wine (any kind).
Bring to a boil.
Cool and pour into a jar or container; leave until the party.
The day of the party:
Add rest of wine, heat thoroughly without bringing to a boil.
Add vodka.
Put sugar lumps in a strainer with a handle.
Light the glogg and dip the sugar lumps into it until they melt.
Put out the flames by covering the kettle.
Serve hot with a few raisins and almond slivers in each cup.
Please don't drink this and drive. It's deceptively strong, but oh, so good!
How funny, I had to post my Christmas drink at Easter. But I saw this as an opportunity to share my secret recipe, hoping that someone out there will make it and enjoy it come Christmas.
