Rust ~ Post No. 29

One day last year, Ronica climbed over lots of rusty items in one of my sheds and squealed with joy as she discovered two old bikes like this one and a small unicycle.

I could see how much she liked her finds, so I kept this bike and gave her the other one and the unicycle. Both she and Mark are into yard art and have convinced me to create a small display area in my backyard.

Only three items in it with my husbands old cement mixer in the background.

  6. once in a parade in Colorado when we lived there my (then) little brother was 4.
he rode a tricycle just like that one! he brought up the rear of the parade.
mother had tied a few balloons to it to make it festive. he WON a whole bag of candy!
he was just so cute. I didn't think so at the time probably.
I just wanted some candy. and he doesn't even remember it! LOL!

  7. That old bike is a great find.

I tried to ride a unicycle without much luck. :)
Where I used to live and walk around the lake, there was a man who would ride his unicycle around it.

  8. Why do you call it a unicycle? It looks like a tricycle to me (3 wheels).
I own a tricycle, and I like them all whether new or rusty.

  9. Oh, I love it!!!! Old bikes are my fave. I found a tricycle like that one deep in the desert years ago. I took about a million photos of it (but I left it where it was). And you have one by your house! Cool!

  10. Those little rusted bikes are rather works of art. They develop character as opposed to today's plastic tricycles that just fade and fall apart.

  11. I wonder what that bike is worth. It looks antique to me. I can almost see the little kids showing off their driving skills on it. They built them sturdy in the old days. Now everything is plastic. What a shame.
    Thanks for the memories.
    Hugs, Julia

  14. This is a wonderful old trike. Can it still be used? I am sure every child wants one.

    1. It's very heavy, at least for me with my old age issues. I can't really move it. It's rusty too and the tires are punctured. Thanks for reminding me it's a trike, not a bike.

  15. love that tricycle ..I use to collect yard art - not so much anymore because of giving away so much when we moved from our larger house. I would enjoy that cute thing sitting around.

  16. Hi Inger - they're fun aren't they ... and I love seeing the trike; while I admire people who can turn what I'd call junk into art ... take care - Hilary
