Hi Inger, there must be a lots of trust among all the people whose mailboxes are readily accessible by anyone. In our area we have one big mailbox with many compartments and everyone has their own individual keys. They no longer want to deliver our mail to our house mailbox. Must be too much work for the postman.
I didn't realized that there were so many household in your area. Country living at its best.
If the phone lines are down, just leave a note in the letter box, BUT which one? One stop for the postie, years ago we lived at the end of a long no-exit road, and the mail was left at a store many miles away.So if one of us was driving home, and it was delivered only 3 days a week, we would collect it for the others too.A lot of trust back then and in your huge line-up.Do the flags go up if there is mail to be collected and posted on?
I've been surprised to see the number of mailboxes at the end of some of the gravel/dirt roads out here. Sometimes there are 30 or 40 mailboxes yet the houses are not visible, tucked away in the desert hills.
good morning! actually 10 minutes after lunch. :D just did a load of laundry and have it all put away. came on line to find this beautiful scene. there's something comforting about it to me. to know there are that many households nearby but not within spitting distance! LOLOL! XO
Looks like it would be a gathering place.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the mail person parks at one end and walks to the other or does the stop start thing in the truck. i love this photo
ReplyDeleteLooks isolated till you see all the mail boxes.
ReplyDeleteFrom a distance I thought of a flock of animals! More neighbors than you'd think.
ReplyDeleteThat mailman has his job cut out for him! I love it though!
ReplyDeleteHi Inger - fun to see ... are they all still in 'working' order? ... quite a lot of distant neighbours one suspects ... cheers Hilary

That's a LOT of mailboxes with no houses! But I guess that's life way out there. How far do you have to walk to gte your mail?

I've never seen a similar arrangement of mail boxes, even in our desert area.
