Old Age May be Dangerous to Your Health! And Another Award!

This will be just a short note to let you know that exactly one year, to the day, after I broke my upper arm, falling over my dog, I ended up in the emergency room once again. So what did I do this time? Well, I had a bronchial infection. So I coughed and coughed and, I guess, I coughed once too often. I've been in a terrible pain since Sunday or Monday, so yesterday hubby took me to the ER here at our small town hospital. That's pretty much all we have in terms of hospital care in our town -- anything more involved and you go to Bakersfield, 50 miles away.

I didn't have to wait long. After talking to the ER doctor, he ordered a CAT-scan of my lower back. The results came back positive for a couple of millimeters fracture of one of the lower back vertebrae. And something happened to the disc as well. I need to see some doctors about this, but I don't think there is much they will do right away. My husband had to go to L. A. today about some work and he has something important to see to on Monday, so I told him to leave. I'll stay in bed, take pain meds , sleep, read, and rest. Sometimes it's nice to just be alone when sick.

Fortunately, the library was open yesterday, so we stopped by and I picked up five easy to read books.

I was so happy to see that four new followers signed up since I opened my blog last. Welcome, and I hope to soon be back to normal. Book reviews and more serious stuff will have to wait. I'm posting this because I know my regular followers, who have become friends over the past year, will worry if they don't hear from me.

Samson, our Samoyed, is a good doctor -- he is a very attentive dog and when he thinks something is wrong with you, he'll give you a thorough ear cleaning. So I have that to look forward to. He's working on Angel in the picture above. Anyway, Samson will help me blog. He is working on his post about his vet visit, so that's coming up.

I can't leave without saying thank you, Julie at: http://julieflanders.blogspot.com  for this Stylish Blogger Award. I really appreciate it and will come up with the seven things about me and those I want to forward this award to soon.

I'm a bit loaded on Vicodin right now -- I was hoping you wouldn't be able to tell.......

More later, I'm back to bed. I hope you all have a great day!

We went to Bakersfield once - just passing through while on vacation - but I recall we stopped at a Chinese buffet there, lol.

  7. Poor baby!! My husband once cracked a rib while coughing & I know how much pain it caused him. I guess the card about Nurses Week is really appropriate. Don't be afraid to take as much Vicodin as you need & REST, REST, REST!!! (And let Samson get those ears clean!)

  11. Well, Inger, if it isn't one thing, it's two. I hope they can figure out what to do and in the mean time, you are on the right track - pain meds and bed rest! I hope they gave you something for the infection - so the coughing stops!

Thinking of you, get rest and get well!

  12. oh, what an awful setback. what you need is one more dog. a saint bernard that carries a small barrel of "medicine" around it's neck.

  16. No wonder you were in such pain. It's always something, isn't it, when we get to a certain age. We are well past that age and send best wishes and smiles to you. Hope this won't be too long and drawn out for you. Samson, take good care of mommy.
