Samson Says:
Spring is here and I'm mad! I think I suffer from an aff, aff, -- what's it called, mommy? An affliction, Samson? Yea, that's it! Gopher Madness!! There are many critters in our yard now that it's springtime. They all get on my nerves, but the gophers are the worst! They tease you until you get crazy!
Here's Soldier going nuts over one. Gophers pop their heads up out of the ground, look at you with beady eyes, show you their long, long teeth (as if that would scare us dogs), then they pop their heads down in the ground again and disappear.
I'm looking for you and one day I'll get you sneaky things.
One kept teasing and teasing me all day long. I got so mad, so full of madness, I tried to climb the fence to get him.
Until mommy came out and covered up the hole with a big rock. I never saw that gopher again. I hope he perished underground. But mommy says they just dig their way out somewhere else.
Then we have these little critters, called ground squirrels. They get on my nerves too, but not as bad as the madness gophers. But these are in my yard, where they don't belong.
Look, there's a whole family of them, eating off my bushes.
"You vermin get off of there," I call out in my bark. Momma vermin looks startled, checks me out, and figures I'm behind bars and can't get to her. This makes for a very annoying life.
And here's one in a closeup picture, mommy is so proud she took. She thinks they're cute.
But I'll keep patrolling and if they come in my yard, they'll have to deal with me. So far this year, my catch is: One mouse, two lizards. And it's only May! LOOK OUT, CRITTERS!

SOOO cute, they are!! but i can see why they'd drive you mad!
ReplyDeleteif you come to Florida you can get half dozen lizards per hour. like Jake. he spends every moment he is out chasing lizards and a few frogs. that is one cute squirrel and that is an excellent shot of she/he. you watch those vermin, ya here?
ReplyDeleteWoahhh Samson! Gracie is impressed! And she says to tell you that you're looking Good!!
ReplyDeleteSamson the warrior...strong and brave!...LOL!!!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteSamson. I'm sorry they've invaded your yard, but as the old joke says, "Everybody's gotta be someplace!"
ReplyDeleteSamson, I am so sorry, darling. How dare those monsters invade your territory? We don't have that brand of monster where we live, but my boys had to kill a couple of rats in the garage right after we moved in. We are made of tough stuff.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Haha, that Samson is always so busy!
I can see why it would be frustrating! Though from a human standpoint, they are a bit cute. :)
ReplyDeleteSamson, you are one tough customer to deal with! I pity any Goffer or Squirrel that meets you head on! Think about this way Samson, all the activity keeps a pup young and active!!
ReplyDeleteMickey wants to destroy all the ground squirrels of the world. Every last one of them. So far, it's GS-1,000,000. Mickey-0.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that they are cute. Sorry they are teasing you so but just look at it as an interesting game and enjoy the fact that in your area, you are king.
ReplyDeleteI vote for giving the dogs a mallet each and let them play whack-a-gopher! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI have something burrowing in my yard but it is bigger than a gopher I think. Possibly a badger.
ReplyDeleteThis is mind-boggling or mind-blogging...whatever...those varmints would be hiding if I was there to help...never to be seen again...at least that's what I think I would do. Good luck Samson and Soldier!
ReplyDeleteSamson Says: Thank you for all your comments on my annoyances. A gopher mallet sounds like a good idea. And after mommy told me what a badger is, I'm sure glad I don't have one of those in my yard. Oh, Florida may be a bit too hot for a Samoyed, but if I came I would love to visit your lizards, Ms. Sandra.
ReplyDeleteCondolences, Samson. Sorry your mommy won't let you out to get those critters. (Bad mommy!)
ReplyDeleteJust be careful that you don't chase a gopher, and get bitten by a rattlesnake. That would be very bad. Maybe that's the reason your mommy won't let you go after those gophers and such. (Good mommy!)
They are so cute. Likely their saving grace in life!
ReplyDeleteHi Inger/Samson .. Spring has arrived hasn't it .. it must be a real pain seeing all those invaders and you're not able to get out and do your duty - humans don't help do they Samson .. oh yes when four legs aren't too well ..
