F is for Friends

Theme ~ Good Things:

Looking back over my life, I believe my friendships, enduring over years of time and miles of distance, are true miracles. I see myself, after all, as a loner, not someone out there with a great social life, or helping and doing things for others. So I am immensely grateful for my friends. You have all been very important in my life.

Barbro, above left, and I met when we were six. Separated by a world, we don't see each other often, but our friendship has lasted for almost 70 years.

  2. Hej!
Jo, vänner kommer och går med. Ibland undrar man varför man tappar dem. Kul att ha vänner så lång tid.

  4. What a cutie you are in the photo. I love your old photo, too!!!!

Friendships (especially childhood) have a huge impact on us. When they last it's great, but when they don't well--it's heartbreaking.

    Thanks for visiting The Ruralhood.

  5. I loved this photo of you with your friend. It reminded me of a photo I have of myself and my cousin, which was taken in the 1950s.
Good memories, and friendships are precious.

And yes - wonderful photo to see ...

  10. Yes Inger, I believe that friendship would qualify as being an enduring one. You are very fortunate indeed. Life doesn't always interfere with special bonds that we have made.

  11. When my mother was a young child she embroidered a sampler with the words "A real friend is a great treasure" and how true that is! Your photo is very special and it must provide you with wonderful memories. I have four friends from 69 years ago -- 1955. We are still in touch with each other and when we get together the years melt away and new memories are made...

  15. A friend that lasts 70 years is a close bond. And that photo! Loved what it conveyed.

  16. A 70 year friendship? Wonderful. Since my best friend, Sandra, has contracted breast cancer, I do not see her anymore. She has withdrawn from the world, clinging to her husband and son -- understandable.

You were a cutie in your photo as Teresa wrote. :-)

  22. Oh, I know what you mean. I have a friend from the second grade. We have seldom lived in the same state but have kept in touch. She will be visiting in June and it will be like it was yesterday that we last met. As close as sisters.
You and I are both blessed.

  27. How wonderful to have such enduring friendships. One thing I love is how connected we can be, but still maintain our 'loner' personalities!
On a side note, I have thought about you a lot as we travel through the arid, mountainous areas of southern California. What beauty !
