Looking back over my life, I believe my friendships, enduring over years of time and miles of distance, are true miracles. I see myself, after all, as a loner, not someone out there with a great social life, or helping and doing things for others. So I am immensely grateful for my friends. You have all been very important in my life.
Barbro, above left, and I met when we were six. Separated by a world, we don't see each other often, but our friendship has lasted for almost 70 years.

It's fantastic that your friendship has lasted so long. I can only hope that my friendships last that long.

Hej!
ReplyDeleteJo, vänner kommer och går med. Ibland undrar man varför man tappar dem. Kul att ha vänner så lång tid.

Oh Inger I have a friendship like that since BA and I were 5 and yes there is nothing more special. Love the photo. Hug B
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie you are in the photo. I love your old photo, too!!!!
ReplyDeleteFriendships (especially childhood) have a huge impact on us. When they last it's great, but when they don't well--it's heartbreaking.
Thanks for visiting The Ruralhood.

I loved this photo of you with your friend. It reminded me of a photo I have of myself and my cousin, which was taken in the 1950s.
ReplyDeleteGood memories, and friendships are precious.
I have a friend whom I am celebrating 50 years of friendship this year. Old friends are the best friends!!!
ReplyDeletefriends are more important than family. we choose our friends we don't choose our family. this is fantastic to have a friend that long. i think 55 years is my longest time knowing a friend...
ReplyDeleteHi Inger .. that is lovely - and wonderful you're still in touch with Barbro ... I had a friend since we were born - sadly she died about 10 years ago (but I'm still friends with her daughters) ... and I have a few friends over the years ... not lots, but some and now blogging friends too ..
ReplyDeleteAnd yes - wonderful photo to see ...
Cheers Hilary
I am extremely thankful for friends.
ReplyDeleteYes Inger, I believe that friendship would qualify as being an enduring one. You are very fortunate indeed. Life doesn't always interfere with special bonds that we have made.
ReplyDeleteWhen my mother was a young child she embroidered a sampler with the words "A real friend is a great treasure" and how true that is! Your photo is very special and it must provide you with wonderful memories. I have four friends from 69 years ago -- 1955. We are still in touch with each other and when we get together the years melt away and new memories are made...
ReplyDeletethat is truly special!
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful that you are still in contact, Inger....:)JP
ReplyDeleteFriendship is truly a treasure, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteNow that's true friendship!
ReplyDeleteA friend that lasts 70 years is a close bond. And that photo! Loved what it conveyed.
ReplyDeleteA 70 year friendship? Wonderful. Since my best friend, Sandra, has contracted breast cancer, I do not see her anymore. She has withdrawn from the world, clinging to her husband and son -- understandable.
ReplyDeleteYou were a cutie in your photo as Teresa wrote. :-)
Sweet photo. Thanks for sharing it. Friends are treasures.

ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day,

I have a long distance friend like that. We are on opposites sides of the US but still share so much.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to have friends for that long. Ive moved so many times it's hard to hang on to friends longterm.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet photo of the two of you.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know what you mean. I have a friend from the second grade. We have seldom lived in the same state but have kept in touch. She will be visiting in June and it will be like it was yesterday that we last met. As close as sisters.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are both blessed.
A 70 year friendship is VERY impressive. I recently reconnected with a friend from a very long time ago and it was great.
ReplyDeleteI have not known you that long, but you ARE my friend!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. I haven't kept up with my childhood friends and I know I've missed out on something special! What a sweet photo of the two of you! Enjoy your week! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMuch like you, I keep to myself. However, the friends I do have I know are true. Nice that you and Barbro still keep in touch.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to have such enduring friendships. One thing I love is how connected we can be, but still maintain our 'loner' personalities!
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I have thought about you a lot as we travel through the arid, mountainous areas of southern California. What beauty !
Beautiful! So wonderful to have friends and those friendship that endure are a treasure!
ReplyDeleteReally like this...a friendship that has endured a lifetime. You are so blessed!
