Me, alone. Life after loss.
A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be. ~ Douglas Pagels
Rachael, animal caregiver, drummer, singer and
someone who knows the true meaning of friendship.
Jane, holding the old duck, and me at Rachael's place of work.
What follows is not a list of how many friends I have, just an acknowledgement of how blessed I feel and how happy I am to have all of them, and all of you, in my life.
I met Jane over 30 years ago when we both worked at UCLA. I also met Judy, Carol and Rosemary at UCLA years ago. I treasure their friendship so much.
Then there are my friends in the canyon. Mary, also a widow, who understands, cares and makes me laugh. And the women in CERT and the crochet group. Don't know what I would have done without them this past year.
I still have friends in Sweden and, of course, there's family. My cousin's son, Thomas, and his girlfriend, Michaela, visited me from Sweden last June. That was very special. And my SIL Deborah is a good friend, we support each other.

Errol's brothers and a few of his friends also keep in touch.
All men are created equal, then a few become firemen. ~ Author Unknown
Finally, there are all of you, my blogger friends who kept Errol and me in your hearts, your prayers, and your thoughts. I will never forget the love you sent our way. Thank you.
Each friend represents a world in us, and it is only by their arriving that a new world is born. ~ Anais Nin
It's worth paraphrasing Douglas Pagels. At times, a fireman is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, it is, of course, important to have true friends. You never know when you'll need them - or when they'll need you.

How fortunate you are to have so many people in your life. Good friends never ask, they just do.

ReplyDeleteHi Inger - so so true ... and I'm so pleased people have been around for you - and family .. even though you're far away from your beloved Sweden - those ties remain ... and it was wonderful when Thomas and Michaela came by to see you; then Errol's family and friends keeping in touch and who are there for you ...
ReplyDeleteRachael, Jane, Mary and other 'locals' ... and those handsome firemen ... keep you cheerful and thoughtful ... wonderful to see .. big hugs - Hilary
It is wonderful how friends can rally and help you carry the unbearable.
ReplyDeleteYour quote says it all Inger. Tex said it too. Sending hugs from my heart to yours. B
ReplyDeleteenjoyed the pictures
ReplyDeleteFriends are a rich resource and you my friend are rich. We are all connected somehow through this technology and we can touch each other's heart through the miles and have a peek in each other's lives for support and sharing. You continue to enrich all our lives with your painful but necessary journey. You are not alone. Hugs my friend.

I love the Anais Nin quote. As I have no family, friends ARE my family. May your family of friends always lend their warmth to you. :-)
ReplyDeleteFriends and fun go hand in hand, and then - there are those firemen. (Sigh)
ReplyDeleteWhat would we do without our friends? Real and online friends are so precious!
ReplyDeleteWhat would the world be without friends? I have met such wonderful people through blogging. They have become my closet friends!! I think it is okay to crush on those firemen. I feel the same about cops. Of course, I am biased since my son is a handsome cop!!
ReplyDeleteSo true. I'm so thankful for my friends.
ReplyDeleteSorry, couldn't leave a comment because of Google+. Google strikes again, how are we ever going to make new friends.
DeleteHow blessed we are if we have good friends. : )
ReplyDeleteSometimes you need friend right there. one who will hug, hold your hand, take you out, show you new things, and sometimes us out here in blogger land are the answer.I know the value of unseen friends, a kinship like no other. Your list for F is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFriends make life such a pleasant place to pass time. They make us laugh, they make us warm when life can get cold. So happy you have so many to lean on.
ReplyDeleteRecently I saw a guy wearing a shirt with that fireman saying and I had an overwhelming desire to hug him.
We love you, Inger!!
ReplyDeleteOooh, firemen! My friends, too, are very dear to me - it's lovely to live in village with so many people who you know you can rely on, and for whom you would do anything as well. Nice to meet you! ~Liz http://www.lizbrownleepoet.com
ReplyDeleteFriendship is what carries us through life. So glad to know you here, Inger.
ReplyDeleteMaking new blogging friends during the #Challenge is great fun. Happy to visit on the letter F day. If you have time or interest in hotels and inns, join me for some arm chair travel.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't respond here either. Web site too confusing for me. Google+ strikes once again.
DeleteFiremen are the good guys, the guys who come to auto accidents, fires, and 911 calls. I'm so glad you have friends and neighbours who keep you occupied with various things like the crocheting and the visits to the missions and the animal refuge. Looking forward to more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteInger,
ReplyDeleteYou can never have too many friends, either real ones or fellow bloggers. Friends are there for you to keep you company and as people to talk to, or participate with in activities. I'm glad you're involved in groups. You should never stay home all the time.
